Poem 36 - Before the Silence Took Me

There comes a time when rejection ceases to wound and becomes a dwelling place. I lived there. Among people, yet unseen. Among voices, yet unheard. The world had a place for everyone, or so it seemed; except for the man standing quietly at the edge of it all. I was poor, but poverty was not the cruellest thing. The cruellest thing was learning how easily a human being can disappear while still alive. No one came to my door. No one asked my name. Days passed like shadows across a wall, leaving nothing behind but hunger. The air I breathed felt heavy. My throat burned with thirst. I drank whatever water I could find, ate whatever remained after life had fed everyone else. And still, I endured. Then even endurance began to leave me. My lips trembled. My heartbeat stumbled. The world before my eyes slowly surrendered its colours. Sound drifted away. Strength deserted my limbs. Something inside me; quiet and invisible; began slipping beyond reach. I stood at the border between life and obli...

Nazam 04 - Badlaav

Haan, haan meine logon ko badalte hue dekha hai
Sakth patharoon ko pighalte hue dekha hai
Waade to mausamoo ki nishaani hai yahan
Haan, haan meine apne khoon ko ubhalte dekha hai

Woh door hai aaj, jinhe dil mein jega di thi
Tanhayoon mei bhi jin ke liye ibadat ki thi
Haan, haan meine khud ko girte hue dekha hai
Apne wajood jo jalte hue dekha hai

Nazar sharafat ki aur zameer poora bikhra sa
Dil pe siyaahi fareeb ki aur chehra nikhra sa
Haan, haan meine parwaanoo ko jalte hue dekha hai
Unche pahadoon ko fisalte hue dekha hai

Ab toh gairoon ke bharoose jee rhe hai
Zindagi ki aakhiri saansein le rahe hai
Haan, haan meine taqdeer ko palat te dekha hai
Zameen pe rehne waloon ko uchalte dekha hai

Yaha ishq ki wasiyaat pe naam kis ka hoga
Jis ka bhi hoga, saza ka haqdaar bhi hoga
Haan, haan meine rooh ko jism se nikalte dekha hai
Apne zameer ko sambhalte dekha hai

Aur jo log sirf duniya daari mei mashgool hai
Muraad-e-Zindagi un ka fazool hai
Haan, haan meine makhlooq ko marte hue dekha hai
Iss duniya ko ujadte hue dekha hai

Poem 21 - A Soul Unclaimed: The Lament of the Unseen

Despised by all, I wandered lone and far, A nameless shade beneath life's coldest star. By scorn condemned, by fortune left behind, No gentle hand, nor sympathetic mind. The world beheld me as a lesser kind, A fleeting ghost no heart would seek to find. In rags I trod through misery and dole, While silent sorrows gnawed upon my soul. I knocked on doors that never did unbar, And called for mercy where no mercies are. The wind alone replied unto my cry, As empty heavens watched my spirit sigh. No roof defended me from rain or frost, No friend remained to mourn what life had lost. I breathed the bitter air of grief and pain, And thirsted under heaven's scanty rain. From murky streams I drew my meagre drink, And fed on crumbs that brought me to the brink. Each passing day consumed what strength remained, Till flesh and bone with suffering were stained. My trembling lips could scarcely form a prayer, My faltering heart beat faintly in despair. The light withdrew from out my weary ey...
