When Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى wants you to get close to Him, He gives you pain, trouble, devastation, etc. to test & examine your faith, integrity & honesty towards Him. And if you pass, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى favours & blesses, sets your heart on for everything.
